Friedrich A. Lohmueller is/was like the go-to guy for all things POV-Ray. His
art was beautiful, his explanations clear, and on the occasions when we
exchanged email, he was as nice and humble as can be.
His home website has vanished, and I can only imagine the worst.
If anyone has any information, that would be great.

Sadly yes. It was a number of years ago, but the website only just recently went
offline.
I have what I think is a full copy of the content and am attempting to contact his
estate to obtain permission to put it back online.
If given permission I will also re-host the content under the original domain name.
Currently it is I believe in its redemption period so cannot be transferred yet.

Is there a way this community could send something to his family or something?
His work was such an amazing contribution.
There were some projects I just wouldn't have completed without his help.
He should have publish a book, like a physical paper copy of his stuff just to
have on the shelf.
When did he pass? It had to have been after 2015.

December 2017.
His widow (Andrea) had been keeping the site online until late last year. I have
exchanged email with her recently. Will know more in a week or so, maybe less.

I would like know where to send condolences, or something, even if it is 6 years
after the fact.
And I'm very glad that his work is being preserved someplace.
Personally, I think the POV-Ray creators would do well to pull in his material
into this site. I don't know how POV-Ray development is funded, but his content
would certainly inspire donations, I would think.
IMHO.

Oh no.. :..O I didn't even know about this, or at least can't remember seeing
anything about it anywhere until now. :-( I visited his site at the end of last
year when all still seemed to be fine, but just last night when I tried to check
out some stuff for quick reminders, I noticed the site is down. Came here to see
if anyone else knows about the situation, but what had really happened truly
came as a shock to me. :..(
I didn't know him personally nor ever contacted him, but I've been a very active
visitor at his website throughout the years; if I didn't get the idea of
something from the POV documentations, POV Wiki or other sources, it was most
often his site that gave the final insight and understanding to many of my POV
head-scratches through times. His tutorials, examples and explanations have been
of greatest help, and ofc, his works were indeed a valuable contribution to all
things POV as well.
He will be in my thoughts.
PS. Hopefully his site can be brought back and maintained some time in the
future for his works and legacy to live on.

for preserving and sharing those!

Folks,
Just wanted to formally let you know that Friedrich's widow, Andrea, was willing to
transfer the f-lohmueller.de domain to us and we were able to reconstruct it via a
snapshot from the internet archive.
The domain is now hosted on povray.org. A number of changes were needed to make it
suitable for re-hosting, including removing outdated or broken components (e.g. the
hit counter) but it's fundamentally identical; we took a "light touch" approach in the
migration.
There is a memorial page added which is linked from the front page.
I'd like to thank Andrea for her assistance in transferring the domain and forum
regular JR for doing the majority of the work in getting the snapshot I grabbed into a
form suitable for re-hosting.
