When using the clock option to create a series of images for animation, normals
are ignored.

I understand that a series of frames for animation needs consistency. Can't
POV-RAY calculate a single normal for the first frame and keep in for the rest
of the frame (to avoid difference as a result of randomness)?

POV-RAY does it for pigments with random patterns. For example, crackle or bozo
works in pigment but not for normal when using clock.

animate w/out using clock?  (ie just use initial_frame and final_frame)

They are?   :O
Are you sure?  This is first I've heard of it.
Every frame should be rendered just like in a stand-alone scene.

Are you using an ini file that sets a quality level?

I confirm it was my mistake. I had set +Q6 for faster rendering of the
animation.

Sorry about that. I was struggling with this for hours before asking this
question. Sometimes, we are blind to spot tiny errors :-P

I've done that before! I remember one time, I just hit the Post message button
with the solution hit me.
