There are many examples of spheres on the internet, but I was unable to find an
example describing how to create a scene implying that an object is inside a
glassy ball.

For example, what finishes/color gradients leads us to a shape like

Most important ingredients in the mix:

- interior { ior FLOAT }
- finish { reflection { 1.0 fresnel on } conserve_energy }

where FLOAT is the refractive index of whatever type of glass you want
to go for. 1.45 might do nicely.
