It seems that Larry Gritz is behind the creation of this project. It's an open
source library to handle images. and BSD licenced, so no problem to integrate to
non gpl programs. Wouldn't it be a good addition to any advanced renderer like
Povray ?

 From what I read, it's acually just an abstraction layer for image file 
I/O libraries; POV-Ray already has such an abstraction layer, and while 
it may not be as elaborate as OpenImageIO, it has the benefit of being 
custom-tailored to POV-Ray's needs.

It was just a thought focused more on leaving current developers more time to do
something else, but I'm still just a user, so I wouldn't really know what is
particularly motivating for a programmer.

File output is quite stable as it is, so no need to switch to a 
different approach at the moment.

Thanks for the suggestion though.
