I just want to say a big congrats to the winners on a great competition! And
thanks to all who voted for me, I'm very happy to have second place :)

I particularly want to congratulate Jeff Reifel for his winning entry
"Rays". As soon as I saw it I knew I was beaten! I think it's the only entry
that can be appreciated outside the context of a short-code contest, it
looks almost real! Simply amazing work. I'm still studying his source code.

Also I'd like to add a special mention to one of the runners up. He wasn't
one of the 5 I voted for but I thought Mikihiko Nishiara's animation
"Through the Menger sponge" showed some real skill. The camera work in
particular is very nice, and I was impressed by the camera-based level of
detail on the sponge. The only problem with that is that the scene doesn't
really need level of detail, so although it's technically impressive it
didn't serve an artistic purpose. Still he would have been in 6th place if I
could vote for 6 so I thought I should mention him.

Finally, congrats again to everyone on a great competition, I was very
impressed by the sheer number & quality of entries. Lets do this again some
time!

I made a textfile with the URLs for all the .mov files, then used "wget
-i list.txt". That downloaded a bunch of HTML files saying robots were
blocked... I had to fake the user agent.

So far they all look great!

lotzic seems to have a very low framerate, any reason for that?
Shouldn't they all look the same regardless of framerate, as long as the
clock range is the same?

Ah, fixed amount of frames. Different framerate, different length... Oh
well, re-rendering with more :)

For pragmatic reasons the frame count was limited to 100, but artists could
choose a playback framerate.

In case anyone wondered, yes the first three entries have been re-rendered at
30fps ... same overall duration as the original just more frames hence
smoother.

That is a lot of very impressive works! Congratulations to the winners but
also to all the others who - imo - have done an excellent job.

yes, I actually liked a lot the entries that had water as primary source of
attention, like the whirlpool or the bridge with slight camera movement: they
looked frightfully realistic!

Awesome results, as always. Personally I don't like doing animations in
POV so much, but the entries are absolutely stunning -- great work! Also
a big thanks to Paul Bourke for organizing the SCC again. Keep up the
great work!

Florian
