I finally ran across a book with this title. I thought this was about
pov-ray, per se, but the description at an online bookstore made me
think it wasn't.

John Varley once wrote a short story with that title.

This book, then, has nothing to do with our raytracer?
 http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/094118823X/qid=999093812/sr=1-2/ref=sc_b_2/002-9655328-0388037

Is Varley's story about our raytracer?

It can easily be argued that cinema, and most art indeed,
is about the persistence of an artist vision. The cover
clearly shows it's cinema related.

Or that cinema in general relies on the phenomenon of persistence of
vision as applied to the human visual system...

Bye for now,
