Your reference was unfamiliar to me so I did some research and found this:
http://squashint.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/piranesi.jpg

I like the ladders, the block and tackle ... can't quite make out the
contraption in right foreground ... a crane/lift/hoist maybe? I also
like the style/mood of this example. So yeah I could see the The letters
POV-Ray as a construction project of sorts (left to right in front of
the hoist) ... OV-Ray is already in place, and the extra special "P" is
being lowered into position ... or as you suggested same style but an
outdoor scene. I want the final product 16x9 aspect so we'd have a
little bit more horizontal real estate at our disposal.

Jim

Remember the reflective sphere under construction? I think that is an
idea too.

Yes. That seems to be even better. I second that.
[although I love Piranesi ;-) ]

Since I liked the mood/lighting, the perspective, and the period of the
example I cited. What about a combination of the two ... My busy time is
just getting started, but I /may/ be able to find some time to rough
something out ... I just got Bishop running via CrossOver on my linux
system, and I think it'll make getting the basic scene geometry setup easy.

I'm not pushed by any time-line on this at the moment, so I'm not sure
when I'll have something.

I had only a hazy recollection of him. So thanks for refreshing my memory.

If you need any specific portion of the scene (like a character or two,
with bounds) worked on, I'll do it since I've got the extra time~

You are welcome. Taschen has published a volume with his art. I don't know
ifi it is still available, but it covers all his work.

have a look in p.b.images and see if you might like to take on making
the arch object purdy ;-)
