code might be nice.

I personally use the textures in woods.inc

e.g.

object {
    door_union
        texture { T_Wood4 }
    }

of course, the door won't be textured uniformly.  In a real door, the grain
direction changes depending on the part involved.

Start with one of the texture that come with POV-Ray and apply it to the 
center panel.
Also apply it to the side parts before you rotate and place them into 
ther final positions.
Place the sides.

You have just replicated how it's done for a real door.

Once you have played with the stock textures, go ahead and modify those 
as you want.

You can simulate the varnish using layered textures with a highly 
filtering pigment. That "top" texture should contain your finish with 
things like reflection and highlights.
