Here is my late contribution.
There is a rule in architecture that say tha a step should respect the
following constraint:
2 * Heigth + Width = 65cm.
If you need you can add 65cm to the widh (for a small slope)
for example
17 cm high and 31 cm width
14 cm high and 102 cm width (37 + 65)
are good proportion.
I can't say what is the tolerance around 65cm, and if the rule applies in
inch :op
