As part of the exercise to update the links within the povray links
collection at http://www.povray.org/resources/links/ we've been through
the ones that the automatic detection routine detected as potentially broken
and we've managed to locate the content for more than half of the 282 links
reported as broken.
The ones we did NOT find are likely to be deleted from the links collection
at the end of this month (May 2006). I've posted a list containing some of
the links that we did not manage to locate at the following URL:
http://www.geocities.com/povperson/POVLinksUpdate/MissingLinks.htm.
If you are passionate to save any of these links from being deleted, please
post a reply on this thread containing just the old URL and the new location
that should be substituted for it in the links collection.
Regards,
Chris B.

Might want to consider these possible.
OLD
http://graphics.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/alumni/tolis/personal/getpage.cgi?shuttle.html
NEW
http://www-graphics.stanford.edu/~tolis/toli/research/shuttle.html
which then links to
http://www.hal-pc.org/~jsb/shuttlepov.html
where the POV model exists.
OLD
http://www.deakin.edu.au/~agoodman/povstuff.html
NEW
http://139.132.118.116/povstuff.php

I found that two of the links to my stuff point to an old site, and
should be listed as broken, but are in the active list.
For my Thoroughly Useful Macros,
http://enphilistor.users4.50megs.com/index.htm
should be changed to
http://enphilistor.50megs.com/macs.htm
with a mirror at
http://www.geocities.com./evilsnack/macs.htm
The Surface Subidivision Suite has now become the New Surface
Subdivision Suite. The old URL of
http://enphilistor.users4.50megs.com/sss.htm
should be changed to
http://www.geocities.com/evilsnack/nsss.htm
Regards,
John

Thanks John.
We're just starting to look at the ones that show as 'non-broken' links, but
I've recorded these and it saves us trying to search for them.

Chris B.

I wondered why that missing link page displayed so badly both in
Konqueror and Firefox. Then I tried to validate the hml code with
http://validator.w3.org and found that it has tons of errors.

Hi Tor,
It was generated from Microsoft Excel, then geocities wraps it in some
scripts, which probably doesn't help - So I can't (and wouldn't want to)
take credit for the HTML, but I did take a look at the error list you posted
the URL to:
The first error shows no DocType and, as it says "The Validator has tried to
validate with a fallback DTD, but this is quite likely to be incorrect and
will generate a large number of incorrect error messages" which explains
quite a lot of the following errors. This seems to have stopped it from
recognising the Microsoft name spaces specified which makes it throw out
even more errors.
Near the bottom of the listing it's complaining about a load of script tags
and stuff added by the free Geocities host site. Most of these reported
errors shouldn't affect most browsers.
Indeed I have tried the page with the latest version of Mozilla Firefox and,
although it overlaps some of the text, most of it seemed legible on my
version. I don't have Konqueror.
I can post it in other formats if anyone is finding it unusable.
Regards,
Chris B.

Ok Chris - I see.
I didn't read the error messages very thoroughly.
Wonder why they don't care about adhereing to standards
- is it an old Excel version btw. ?
