A lot of people seem to be encoding their MPEGs with the "DIVX" codec, but
WMP on my machine just says "Unable to download an appropriate
decompressor." Where can I get this DIVX codec?

Try typing "divx" on Yahoo. It'll give you plenty of links where you can get
the app.

ummmm ... www.divx.com would be a good place to start ...

The common courtesty would be to just use MPG-1, you know.....
