on a hieght field with a dirt path. Does anyone have the info on this, I

Mark Wagner's Vegetate include file uses MegaPov's trace feature
to apply objects to any surface topography. It also has a feature
that allows you to define keep-out zones such as dirt paths.

As Ken seems to have sorted you out already, I don't know how much use this
will be - but you might want to take a look at the source code I did for a
grass on a heightfield scene. It's in povray.binaries.scene-files titled
'Even more grass on a heightfield', strangely enough.
