If you would like to help support the POV-Team then consider buying
one of more of the IRTC competition CDs. The proceeds from the sales
of the CDs help support the POV-Team and the maintenance and upkeep
of povray.org, irtc.org, and this news server.

I must have missed it. I see that it says that the Team doesn't want people
to pay for a software that should be free, but it doesn't say anything about
voluntary donations as far as I can see. Either way, I think he'd get more
bang for his buck by buying the IRTC CD-ROMs. :)

I do not know all the reasons but I do know this is their official policy
and one they ask us to respect.

Me? I am just another user of the program like you. I do appreciate
the offer but I think your money would be better spent elsewhere.
The purchase of the IRTC CDRoms really do help the POV-Team and would
be your best course of action - in my opinion.
If you insist you must make a donation to someone may I suggest a
donation to the American Red Cross who will use the money to aid
the people affected by the recent terrorist attacks in America?

Not speaking officially, but I suspect it's because once money starts
changing hands you start having to keep track of it and file for nonprofit
status and all sorts of other ugly tax-related things that are further
complicated by the fact that we're spread all over the planet.
