Hate to post it here, but I know as rare as they seem to be, not many
people will know of good site. A while ago someone posted that there
was a free version of Amapi 4 on the company website. I downloaded it,
but I'm having some trouble figuring everything out. Does anyone know
of any good tutorials for any version of Amapi?

The best place to start is Eovia's website.

Why, sure, there are quite a few good ones on the net. You can try going to
the Amapi site - used to be www.tgs.com before they bought eovia (not too
sure if that's the correct spelling) - there are many in the tutorial
section. Also try www.staigerland.com/amapi/ and, I think, www.3dlinks.com
(the tutorial section). Also you can try joining their discussion forum (in
yahoogroups) - you can get some very good advice there.
It's a very nice program but you should be aware that (atleast of v5.0) it
doesn't export textures, or even colours. It does, AFAIK, do a good job
with models etc.
Good luck
