Well you could start by d/ling all the different distros of linux, put
each onto a CD, and mess around with your machine untill you find the
right distro for you.

Once you have found the linux distro that you like use all of that
extra speed searching the net in vain for software that will run
under linux and is worth owning.

I would say that most free software for Linux/Unix is far better than
most free software for Windows.

The majority of the stuff you'll need comes with the distro, the only
thing thet I'm missing is an Mpeg player, but others have managed to
sort it out and I just havn't got round to it yet.
Anyway this has gone over to off-topic so I'll leave it at that.
