Hi,
I am a convinced POVRAY user, but now, for quick importing and
rendering (simple scene building included) DXF-files with 3D-objects,
I am searching a good shareware/freeware solution.
What's the recommendation?
Thanks!

Believe it or not but Paint Shop Pro can open DXF files so you can look at the
3D model contained therein. I'm sure many such programs must exist.

Check out Moray at http://www.stmuc.com/moray
It can import dxf through 3DWin, but I don't think you can edit them.

I once found a good beta program called 3D explorer that renders DXFs &
other mesh formats using OpenGL, Direct3D and its own scanline renderer,
can't remember where I got it (I am not at my home computer right now)
but U might try the POV-Ray links collection (mostly found by Ken -
thanks) http://www.povray.org/links/ as I think its in there or linked
to from one of the pages in there

Try the OpenGL version of 3DWin (from Thomas Baier, find a link on
Moray's website).
Johannes.
