Hi,
Isn't it possible to create a povray version which can behave like a
server, to divide a render task over many computers on a network?
The real render is then being done by povray clients on the seperate
computers.

See the following patches of POV-Ray that offer this capability -

It is possible.
It is not easy, portable nor compatible with every feature of povray.

Could you give more info on this? My husband set up a beowulf
(using pvmpov) for me a couple of years ago... then I quit
tracing for a while, and the boxes it was on went on to other
things... he's been talking about resurrecting it -- and I'm just
curious what features I'll lose.
Thanks,
Claire

Well, now that bites.
But thanks for the info -- you just saved us quite a bit of time.
