  Planned Y2K disasters? (Message 1 to 9 of 9)

Will there be any trimming of posts from the povray server? Or is what
I "see" only on my hard disk?? I notice that most groups on the povray
server only go back to around 1/99.

If so, the povray community should be warned so that they could download
the most important tutorials, info, etc....

Yes, because you did not download all articles :-) Currently povray.general
for example has over 16000 (!!!) messages.

Please read povray.announce.frequently-asked-questions "Welcome to the
POV-Ray News Server !", section "Message Storage".

Greg, none are planned for the immediate future. All articles and
binaries ever posted are still on the server with the exceptions of
cancelled posts and those older than a (now) 14 day period in
p.off-topic.

Have you looked at your preference settings in Netscape? Perhaps you
can set the date back for message retrieval.

I don't foresee any problems with the server when the clocks trip into
the New Year but you can do so, if you wish.

Thanks. I wasn't expecting a world-ending catastrophe for Y2K, but feared
someone deciding to trim messages more than a year old. But now I see that
the starting date of the posts in one's reader are due to the choices that
one makes.........

Then why do I only have 14500 of them? The oldest I have is from 12/12/96.

Mark

Probably because Thorsten has not discarded the cancelled messages. I'm
showing 13,438 total message for this group with the oldest one dated
Dec 12, 1969.

When I open this group, it says that there are a bit over 17000 articles.
