When I saw the latest issue of Science (Nov. 26) I
immediately recognized that POV look. So I e-mailed
the author, and yes, POV-Ray! The image was created
by Daniela Stock using BobScript and POV-Ray. It
illustrates the shape of the ATP-synthesizing machine.

You recognized POV-Ray? I'll have to take a look at the magazine. By
the way, what is BobScript? Did he give you any clues as to what that
is? I've never heard of it.

Yes, when you see it you know what I mean. You can almost
write the POV-Ray code in you mind when you look at it :-),
Sky_Sphere { pigment {gradient y..., plane, etc....
except of course for the molecular density model.
I'll write Dr. Stock and ask what BobScript is.

For those that haven't seen the cover image, go to:

Harold saw POV in *that*? Damn... he is good. I would never have guessed it.
I didn't know POV had a "look" all it's own when rendering. Every time I've
tried to say "That's POV", I've failed. My hat's off to you, sir.

I sometimes look at an image in the IRTC and think "that's probably not
made with povray, it's too good-looking, too perfect". Then I look at the
description file and see "Renderer used: povray".
I really like those images.

Well, I can usually tell that it was probably made in POV (and drool with envy).
I'm mainly fooled when the author has used 3rd party modelling tools with great
skill.
Goes to show, there isn't much you can't do with POV. You just have to figure
out how.

I feel pride when I find those. They inspire me. Except when they say
"Modeller used: Poser" and stuff like that. I don't even know where to buy
it. I doubt they sell it here. <boohoo> :(

You can get a full copy of Poser 4 at Ebay for around $100.
