but with the CG industry moving so quickly, 10 years of experience might
just as well make you irrelevant

after you...

if you feel unable to add to in a constructive manner, please restrain
yourself from joining in, if the 'constant' discussion of this topic upsets
you, remember that you don't have to read the threads.

If you doubt that this feature is even possible (or even really needed) does
not mean that it cannot and should not be done. This is such a radical
feature that will require radical changes to the way povray works and is
used, and in that quest nothing that povray does to date should be allowed
to prevent it.

Even if that means POV stops with 3.5 and version 4 is a new beast by the
same name with no other new features aside from this one.

The possibilities for the way povray can be used, both for hobbyists and
professionals are frankly, staggering.

I have always been irrelevant.

In case you missed it, I only commented on the discussion and its point. A
discussion in a two year old thread, after all...

"Ten years of experience" is not the same as "Ten-years-old experience".
The latter might make you irrelevant, not the first one.

Heh - like the "EBusiness" model, making old business practices obselete?
Investors saying they don't need Warren Buffet, they've got Tech stocks?

I'd say listen to the pros. You don't have to do what they say, but at
least -listen- to them!

Sure write your patches although keep it separate from the povray source unless your
willing to continue working on your patch, cause that's half of what programming is.
If a patch is added to povray it has to be thoroughly tested before it is officially
added.
