POVAFX? I found it at
http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/2143/povafx10.html , but I'm
wondering why the glow was never added to the official POV. It is so
cool. You could make glowing particles for explosions, lights that are
like lens flares, we could make a better lightsabre. So, am I totally
wrong or can this be done currently?

That is a neat one there. Wonder if this is where ground fog originated
from? That "glow" look like it had the "halo" beat it looks like when
interacting with fog. Halo always had troubles concerning proper
transparency in a fog.
Although the last update of that page was just last June the Windows
version link was broken or I would have tried it out.
