Hi, Ingo. The Official POV-Ray Home Page has also been updated to reflect
the availability of v3.1d for many platforms.

I am very sure. I also had a hard time believing it, but the entire
directory, including the subdirectories I made, was gone. This must be a
"glitch" in the Wise installer/uninstaller.
Normally, uninstallers then say: couldn't delete directory "blabla", and
leave it as it is. Unwise didn't do that here.

Happend to me too, I lost my IRTC Entry Source files among other things :(,
at least I managed to upload the image before this disaster.

This is very worrying. Unwise is not supposed to do that ! Unfortunately we
have no control over it whatsoever - it's totally automatic and does what it
wants to do (though the new version, I believe, allows you to do a step by step
uninstall).

I just went ahead and installed 3.1d over the old installation (had my
reasons). Everything _seems_ to be working normally. This should prevent
such disasters, since nothing is deleted, old files are simply overwritten.

Then your worse of than me. I only lost some unimportant scenes and some
downloaded utilities and/or scenes, which I can easily update or rewrite.
I did one thing out of the ordinary though: I chose custom uninstall (I
always do, when installing/uninstalling) and perhaps inadvertently selected
my directories too - I don't remember, actually. Did you do a standard or a
custom unistall?

I will certainly do the same next time. Either that, or just install into a
completely new directory. I would have just done that, if the installer
hadn't warned me.

Luckily I've only beein using POV since December so this was the only real
loss for me,
but at the time I seriously thought about kicking something :)

I also did a custom uninstall for the very reason I didn't want my
directories erased, I'm paranoid that way (a lot of good it did me), I can't
remember seing them listed when I selected those to be erased though.
Next time I'll copy everything to my ZIP Drive before I do anything like
this.

I always promise to do the same too. And then, after a few successful
installations, forget about it again... Until the next loss of data. ;-)
