ok, I'm gettings ready to install Linux (Redhat 5.2 for now, it's supposed to be
easy enough) and I want to know where and how to get pov up and running. As
well, what is the favoured editor, and how do i get it up and running?? 

yeye, see me as the total newbie and so on. I'm looking forward for the use of
my system, for once :-)

I don't know about Redhat (I use SuSe) but the 3.02 version should be in
the distribution as a rpm. After installing there should be two
executables. One is called x-povray which needs the X-windows
environment and one is called s-povray which should be running on the
console (using svgalib I guess ... never used it). You start povray by
calling it with the command line options. With an .ini file this can be
quit short. I could look like this:

>x-povray +itest.pov +l/home/Marc/povray3/include +w400 +h300 +d +v +p +x

There are even some programs out there that give you something like the
interface in the windows world:

 http://cspara.uah.edu/~mallozzir/software/xforms/xfpovray.html

I haven't used them. I prefer emacs.

Thanx, it helps.
(Now I've got my dialup working in windows again, it broke when setting
com-speed to >33.6 :-/ )
