Well, what about the .OVL in the old DOS system ? Wasn't it like the dll
in a way ? Seems kinda close to me.

If a _program_ supports .OVL-files, that doesn't mean that DOS supports them.
DOS supports .OVL-files if there is a DOS system call which you can use
to use .OVL-file. Is there any?
