OK, here's what happened:
I recently downloaded POV-Ray for Windows 3.1 beta 6b. When I try to
install it, the installation always gets to 74% (the povray help file)
and then displays an error message: "I/O error, bad installation media
or corrupt installation file" (or sth. very similar).
When I hit the "retry" the progress indicator continues to sth. absurd
like 140% and then exits, telling me that my disk is full.
However, when I tried the same install file on another machine,
everything was OK!
So, I guess this a bug in my Windows (nah...) or some kind of software
conflict.
Has anybody experienced the same problem or perhaps can give me some
advice?
Thanks a heap
Margus

Several people have had problems installing these beta versions.
I can honestly recommend at this point to just wait. The official
3.1 release will be in the next few days and you will have to re-install
again anyway. The beta versions time out at the end of the month.
If you are going to try to get it working anyway go into control
panel and see if it is showing up in the add/remove files window.
If it is choose un-install. After it's completed, still in the add/remove
programs section choose to add a program (povray) and follow the
instructions. Others have conquered the problem this way.
Hope I have been of some help to you.

Thanks, Ken.
I know I'm being impatient and all... But this is really a matter of
honor and personal fulfilment by now ;-)
I downloaded POV31b6 twice via my slooow connection - and I HATE getting
screwed by such quirky problems.
I think I've solved the problem by installing POV at my school computer
and taking it home from there, although this requires some annoying
registry and ini editing.
But I'm worried: this seems to be a problem that is easily overlooked,
since it only occurs on some (or only my own?) machines.
It would be ineresting to know if others have had the same kind of
problem, and what is causing it.
