I've got a set of scales I rendered in MAX, I'll send you a wireframe top
and front view. Hope it helps.

Thanks to Ken Tyler and Lance Birch I already have a great start. I only
need a little more help: does anybody know of a good (on-line ?) resource /
utility where I can learn the exact position of the Libra constellation on
the 25th of September, 10 p.m. observed from Bulgaria? (I know this is a
hard one).

TIA.

Peter

I don't know of any online resources but you might check out
http://www.filepile.com and see if they have a good
astronomy / planetarium program. This place has they claim over
a million programs online for download so it's worth a shot.

Hi Peter, thanks for the nice comments! You might want to check Home Planet
( http://www.fourmilab.ch/homeplanet/hp3beta.html ) instead. It should
allow you to just enter a Long/Lat description of Bulgaria if it isn't
already there.

If you want, download it from the following locations (it's not online):

North America:
ftp://ftp.netcom.com/pub/ke/kelvint/homeplanet/hp3lite.zip

Switzerland:
ftp://ftp.fourmilab.ch/pub/kelvin/homeplanet/hp3lite.zip

It's about 1Mb. Or, you can download the massive version (7 Mb) by going to
the site. The only difference is it contains images of the planets and
sounds files (I think).

Unfortuneately I don't kow of any online resources. :-(

Oh well, hope this helps anyway!!!

OK, I've found an online viewing program that's worth a try! I'm not sure
how it's meant to work and I haven't tried it but if you don't want to
download Home Planet give it a go...

It's at:

http://skyview.gsfc.nasa.gov/skyview.html

Goto the Java version. Hope it works!!! Otherwise, you can always revert
to Home Planet.

Hey, this program's great! It can even give me a clue to how the horizon
will look somewhere sometime looking in some direction. I only need to pay a
visit to my astronomy teacher from high school to get all numbers and codes
into useful pov coordinates and voila!

Thanks to all who helped me, especially to Ken and Lance!

Hey.. You know how you said about the co-ords? Are you thinking of
converting the database into POV-Code? If you are I've done this exact same
thing before!!! I wrote a program to convert the constelation azmuth/alt
co-ords to POV-world-space co-ords a while back. Do you want them?

If you've been trying to mail me, my mail server's gone completely dead. I
don't know what's wrong with it, hopefully it will be back up soon. In the
meantime, I think I can still send emails, so I'll try to send you the
program (do you have the VB 4.00 32 bit runtime dlls???).
