hi. i've been working on some programs to convert to pov-ray format
lately. perhaps you could comment on their usefulness, etc:
FST2POV converts FST format aircraft models to pov-ray, applying gouraud
shading and texture mapping automatically:

i'm also working on a program that converts Microsoft Flight Simulator
aircraft models to pov-ray. unfortunately, this will not be easy without
UV texture mapping. anyway, here are some VRML test files:

i have also modified pov-ray to output for each pixel, in addition to R,
G, and B values, the floating-point X, Y, and Z values of the nearest
intersection. this is very useful for making stereograms and other fun
stuff. has this been done before? i couldn't find anything on the
internet.
