Hello everyone,

Is it possible to include something into newer versions of Povray that
would mean extremly better rendering times?
I think a lot of people work in a computer network or have access to a
computer network. Can it be included in povray to use remote computers
for rendering?

That would be great!!!

You are right, it has to do with Mac OS 8. As you may have read in most Mac magazines,
Mac OS 8 has a new look. This new look is provided through a shared library which is
shipped with Mac OS 8.x. But it runs (inversion 1.0.2) with every System down to 7.1.
Please refer to the "POV-Ray MacOS Read Me", section "Getting Started: 1. Install"
(the readme is in the "Documenation" folder).
In fact the Appearance Extension is not downloadable for users. Apple intension is
that it is distributed with an application that needs it. Also this requires no
license we did not put it in this beta version. As noted in the docs we will use an
installer for the final POV-Ray 3.1 for MacOS and then we will install it.
The internet address in the doc is "http://developer.apple.com/sdk/". This is a
programmers site and you have to download the SDK (Software Developemt Kit) intended
for developers who wish to write Appearance savy applications. This archive contains a
lot of files you don't need. In the base directory you should find a file "Appearance"
and another one "Appearance Extension" (and lots of other files). The file named
"Appearance" belongs into your Control Panels folder (yes, it is an Application, but
it still belongs there because it is the >>Appearance control panel in OS8<< you
mentioned).
If you wish I can send you an e-mail with the two files, so you don't have to download
it from the Apple website.

"pov### [at] compuservecom" because we do not provide official support through this
newsgroup (and there seem to be only a few Mac users in here).

Thanks for that claification. I did have OS8 on a separate partition, but I don't use
it 'cos I love my Now Utilities, and I copies the Appearance control panel and
extension to my 7.6.1 system. No go. It tells me it is an old version of Appearance
manager. I'll have to track down someone with OS8.1 and try those.
