It's tricky... but possible. There are two ways.

1) If you are satified with just placing the letter around the sphere
without bending them, it's easy. Use diffrent string-funktions to extract 
letter by letter and then rotate and translate them into place.

2) If you want to bend the letters as well you're in for some long 
rendering-times. If that doesn't bother you, you can use Chris Colefax
object bender-include file.
