I've gone back through the archived posts to see if this has been mentioned
previously, but didn't find it, so...

Concerning MEDIA in general, the POV docs give the following values as
defaults: METHOD 3 and INTERVALS 10. But in the detailed discussion that
follows, it says, "It is usually best to only use one interval with method
3. Too many intervals can lead to artifacts, and POV will create more
intervals if it needs them."

If true, shouldn't the default value for INTERVALS be changed?

I think that the documentation has wrong values there.
They are reminiscent of when method 1 was the default. They should be
fixed.

I've since come to the same conclusion. In addition, the experiments I've
done seem to indicate that the default for INTERVALS is, in fact, still 1,
not 10 (based on the media's visual appearance, and on a comparison of
parse/render times.)

There is a clear visual discrepancy between leaving
INTERVALS out (in which case it uses its default value) and actually
plugging in INTERVALS 10. The parse/render times are wildly different as
well.

I'm willing to be challenged on this assumption, however.
