I participated to POVCOMP. I won a prize.
I have to submit the source, and a big sized image.
I got some problem with my main computer's bios. The latest version of the
source, and the mesh might be definately lost.
My second computer is a 350mhz without enough memory to render it.
I could upload the files i have, but they may not be up to date (especially
the mesh, the remaining file are up to date and free to use on the povcomp
website http://povcomp.com/entries/102.php)).
The partial rendering of the main character has been rendered in +w3700
+h2775 (see narcissism2.ini in the source provided with my entry
So, is a 3700x2775 redering will be enough? If yes, can someone render the
scene without the mesh then paste the partial rendering into it?
I wanted to provide some modifications to fit the comments. Seems like i
won't. :(

freeze and don't panic
loss of the bios does not affect the hard disk contents
the sources of your entry should be safe

Except if you smashed the computer with a shovel, pierced the harddrive with
a gun, applied a neodymium magnet and put the remains in a baking oven of
course......

I know, but it's a laptop (2'1/2 drive). And i only have 3'1/2 drives on
standard computers.
If i open it, and extract the HD, the warranty may be broken. If i send it
to the dealer, they might change everything...
But if i ever take back these data, may i upload the final image & source
later? How much later?

You may try to render the source with may-be-updated mesh i uploaded to the
ftp server (not public_source).

Most laptops have user removable hard drives; Dell's even now ship
replacement drives under warranty direct to our consultants who swap out the
drive themselves.
I've purchased 2 1/2" to regular desktop IDE adapters that work like a champ
to hook up laptop drives to desktop PC's. You'd just remove the hard drive,
plug in the adapter, and plug into a desktop spare IDE connector.
Dell replaceable hard drives used to come with a PCMCIA card that had a
laptop sized hard drive adapter cable so you could hook up your hard drive
to another laptop.
There's always options.

Hmm, what FTP server?
The render is 40% done now, so I'll leave it on for the week-end. I'll add
the character on Monday.
About your laptop, what other people said: unless your HD is fried your data
should be fine. A component of my PC motherboard took fire the other day and
I was able to plug the HD on another machine and resume working in a matter
of minutes.

Just some thoughts:
If you have data stored on a computer and send it back
to the vendor/service company or whatever, usually you will
have to either tell them (if they are nice..) or have to buy
an "insurance" for not just doing a reset of the system.
This is usually the case if you have bought a Dell / HP or whatever..
they just wipe the system and won't lose a single second of sleep
over it.. UNLESS you have told them to do otherwise..
I'm not saying that this will be or are the case with your computer
but.. beware.. ok?
