Some thoughts expressed about this tornado/dustdevil/whirlwind macro:

Maybe it need not be said but I will anyway. The macro won't fit for every scene without some modification, there being so many possibilities from scene to scene. The macro only produces the kind of thing I intended it too and so without further changes it is very likely to be ugly to unusable. I make no claims as to how well the macro has been done.

Enough disclaiming... it might do well in many instances.

The mpeg animation was a early trial run, changes made afterward really made an improvement, so you'll want to give that a try yourself. It never is perfect though, the most fallable thing is what resolution is used. Larger renders can get awful, I think smaller ones look very good, and when it comes to animation speeds that's another factor altogether. The 320x240 size jpeg rendering is about the upper limit concerning a good scale that looks at least somewhat realistic. A matter of opinion, I know, but having looked at it as 800x600 seemed terrible to me.

If you can do so, I'd appreciate your leaving the following files intact if passing it around:

macro tornado.mcr
macro tornado.pov
macro_tornado.txt

Content of the files is up to you but making note of changes is always a welcome thing. Thanks for reading.

POV-Ray forever,
Bob Hughes
