Here is another render I recovered from an old drive. This is one I used about
15 years ago. I know there are a gazillion 3d renders of PCs, but it was fun to
model.

Very nice and detailed.
But the totally wrong operating system.
There are clear point deductions for this, sorry
:)

This is what a real operating system runs on. A pair of IBM z800-2066
processors with 9037 sysplex timers and timer management console. This is from
about 2005. The screen on the monitor is not the proper image, unfortunately I
don't have the correct one for the timers. Oddly the application that
controlled the timers was a windows 3.1 app running under os/2.
:)

Great! Funny, I never did a model of a PC. You can tell that it's an old model
because of the cords to the mouse & keyboard. I've abandon cords as soon as
cordless came out:)
Have Fun!

a few of those might give that IBM machine a run for its money :-)

You're probably right, the pi is a very capable machine. The IBM processors
aren't that much faster, I think maybe somewhere in the vicinity of 5 mhz. The
z800's have a maximum of 4 cpus. The difference would be in the i/o. I've seen
these machines do in excess of 10000 i/o's per second and not even break a
sweat. There is an IBM mainframe emulator called Hercules
(www.hercules-390.org) that I run on my raspberry-pi 5. For a single user it's
as fast as the real thing.

Did you ever run Raspian Linux on your pi? How do they compare? I tried
OpenSuse on mine but had some trouble with it and went back to Raspian. I
haven't tried Debian.
