Rendering of screws. Just posted the scene and macro's for generating a few
screw/bolt types. Working in a distressed steel material. Like flies, theses
will start showing up in my renderings. :)
Mike.

You forgot the Robertson head.
It's square, slightly wider at the top by about 2% to 3%.

Clearly he didn't have one on hand when he took that photograph that he's trying
to pass off as a render....

I'm sure the threads must be a real challenge to get right.

We had a guy work out a bunch of the math for getting the right thread profile,
a while back.
I'm sure there are other macros for generating screw threads - It's something
I'm certain could be expanded into a field of its own. Just paging through
Machinery's Handbook, it's an extensive topic.

Beautiful! Gorgeous! Photo-real!

I'm running out of superlatives. Wow!

Thanks for posting the code too; I can't wait to dig into it.

I kinda cheated with the treads. I use a macro for a cubic spine coil that's
driven by bolt length and radius - I use it to boolean cut the bolt. There's
probably a better way. Thanks for the info.
Mike.

...and the image and code appropriately show up in the newsgroups'
"Thread Digest (100 newest threads in all groups)"

:-D

Hey, wait a minute...I count only six screw threads!! Where are the other 94??
What the...??

I created isosurface functions for machine screw threads that take the
major diameter and thread count as parameters. The functions are more
turnkey than Robert Munyer's code, and give the same results.

Beware, there is an illegitimate apostrophe in my post. I didn't notice
it until too late.

That first function works very nicely. The rest will have to wait until later.

With jr's tabulated macro, these would make very nice standard thread charts.

Neither did the question mark and the exclamation point... :D

Well done, as usual.
