Here's my old Spherical Splash isosurface shape with a texture map controlled by
a blurred object pigment. The textures on the thinnest parts are brass textures
made by Edouard Poor.

The effect you see here is similar to the "proximity patterns" found in work by
several others, e.g. Wlodzimierz ABX Skiba, Mike Andrewws, Samuel Benge and
Edouard Poor - and in MegaPOV and Hgpovray IIRC.

I've now made a github repository for my Gaussian blurring macros.
