It's a Braun fan. Modeled mostly in Blender. The stand was also modeled in
Blender, but when I added a transparent color, rendering times became too long
(as in stuck at 0% for > 24 hours). So I remade the stand in Povray SDL instead.
Now render time is about 5 minutes. What is it about transparent meshes that
causes rendering times to slow down so much?

I suppose I should add an image...

0% for 24 hours? I suppose that only pov-ray has this behavior. Because I often
notice that it rendered CSG slower than mesh.

Tranparency in mesh should not cause such a slowdown. Maybe there was
LOTS of triangles located inside the mesh, hiden by it's opacity...
Try placing that problematic mesh in a merge to see if the slowdown
still occurs.

Just made a merge. Same problem: rendering remains stuck.

That's bizarre to say the least. Could you post that mesh so that we can
have a look at it? I cannot imagine it being slower than csg.

First, I'll post an image with better lighting.

Posted the scene file in misc. Although, now that I examine the blender file, it
does look like I have several of the transparent pieces within each other. I'll
see if I can separate those and report back.

Aha! Edited the blender file so entities aren't inside each other for the
transparent parts. Now the scene renders to completion!

Yeah, that can make a huge difference indeed.
