It's a pity your work doesn't generate entire trees from scratch, but...

... I take this to say that there already exists a plug-in to do the
basic tree-generating, so that's fine.

Sapling plug-in - the stable version always enters the Blender package. If it is
excluded from package, I will support, there difficult anything isn't present.

But, smooth transition from branch to branch is necessary for trees.
It already other my task - to create blob from branches.
It after. :)
The dense needles don't demand type of branches. :)

Polygons write as prism.
Very good result!
Write, parse and render:
mesh as mesh: 4 minutes :(
mesh as prism: 20 seconds. :)
