Still not a finished image but thought I would post this as I am pleased with
the progress. I have modified the rock texture (added a wet look near the bottom
of the rocks to the left and tweaked the texture a bit). Also added a rougher
looking sea. Knowing me I will modify it and ruin it so figured best to post
this one so I have a backup of the image ;-)

Really good. Captures the bright sky, dark land effect one sees early
morning/late evening extremely well. Good work with the sea, I imagine that's
really difficult to get right.
I wonder, would some cloud on the horizon work well, or distract too much?

To be sure, I shall keep this version in my reference collection. You
can almost smell the sea and hear the surf. I think you have gotten
things right and I suggest you do not tweak too much further.

Thanks, I am pretty pleased with how it is going, I had a bit of an
issue when nesting texture_maps where suddenly the performance
completely dropped off. (I actually gave up waiting for the first square
of the image to appear to even see the results). Not really sure what it
was as the same nested texture map worked OK on a simple sphere scene.
If I can workout how to reliably reproduce the issue in a less complex
scene I will post a message as it may be a bug (it really was that bad a
drop in performance).

Hi Bill,
Yes, the sea was fairly troublesome. This is a technique I have been
working on for some time, I call it 'trial and error' ;-)
There will definitely be clouds on the horizon in the final image, and
some spray around the rocks (at least in my mind there is, I just need
to get something I am happy with but that doesn't take too long to render).
Thanks

Thanks Thomas, I think a backup of the pov source is called.

This is really looking fantastic Sean! And I was planning to do a Giant's
Causeway, oh well... back to the drawing board.

Thanks, I see no problem with 2 people submitting images on the same subject
especially if you have already started work on the scene. I think with topics
like the current one there is a lot of chance that 2 or more entrants will have
similar ideas.
Either way, I am looking forward to seeing your entry, your images are always
top notch.

That should not keep you away at all! There are causeways and causeways
after all.
