Ah this is nice! Might be a good reason to ask FlyerX to add a
mesh/mesh2 save option, with mesh2 as default.

I am not entirely sure how you did this but the result is spectacular
and convincing.

I will add a simple demonstration file to povray.binaries.scene-files, where the
several steps are shown.
As you can see, saving a mesh saves a lot of render time, but there is a
disatvantage too - sharp leaf texture changes can happen within one leaf.
Of course this trick can be useful for several kinds of slow textures applied to
a mesh...

It is not such a disadvantage I believe as one can see sometimes those
kind of texture changes in nature as well.

Sure. Now we just need that old Poseray version again... or an addition
to the latest version. My old versions have all been deleted ages ago. :-)
