I've been playing with some more complicated shapes using my smooth CSG macros.
It's not finished yet, but I wanted to share it anyway because it looks pretty
good!
Render time 15 minutes (on my Core i7 2600k).

that's pretty impressive ... especially that you also have
such control over the contours that the parts fit together.

I agree, this is really interesting stuff. Have you tried exporting a
tessellated mesh? (maybe via the isosurface approximation macros?). Just curious
how that would turn out to speed up render times...
Cheers

But if I wanted a mesh of a car it would be easier to build one in a mesh
editing program than to generate one from my isosurface.
Additionally I think the thin edges on the doors (which are not seperate
objects, just a cut carved into the surface) would cause problems for any
tesselation algorithm.

Although the ability to do nice curves is apparent, the angular look
that this particular model has would be useful as well. This one has an
Eastern Bloc look to it.

I can see what you mean, though I was actually aiming for the look of a Japanese
car from the 80's. Something like an AE86.
Regarding the curves, I was initially planning to build a curvy supercar to show
off the smoothin. But during a test render I noticed how nicely it could do more
subtle curves on a very angular shape. I'll probably attempt something curvier
after this, but the angular shape is easier.

Updated version. It's starting to look pretty good. Just needs some kind of
interior and some other details.
Though render time has increased. This took 35 minutes.

How about some metallic paint and HDR?
