A colour anaglyph viewable with red/cyan 3d glasses.
A wire puzzle my brother has. It's just difficult enough that I can't remember
the solution the next time I visit ;-)

Too many hobbies on the go at one time, started to feel like work. A little time
off once and awhile is good for the soul :-)

Does the technique required the scene to be in any way
specialized for this, or can you just render two images
that are offset by eye distance and merge them with an
appropriate color tint for any scene?

No, but there are limits which make some scenes less suitable ;-)

I use an offset of 20-30 units into the scene(first object) for every 1 unit of
eye(camera) separation. I use an interactive program, StereoPhotoMaker, to tint
and assemble the two images.

The latter. You just have to have a scene that looks good that way.
I prefer just rendering it for cross-eyed viewing.
