A well-kept secret! Somewhere in Dubai...

Just having some fun with isosurfaces (and textures and media and lighting
and...)

I've been re-working some images from the past year that I never posted. This
one isn't perfect; it still has lots of uncorrected elements. But rather than
work endlessly on it, I decided to post it as-is. Suggestions are welcome,
though; I *might* spend some more time on it. Hard to let go of!

The statues are a little freaky, texture-wise.

And you definitely need a wet bird perched on the very top of the tall 
abstract statue on the left. ;-)

Is it just me, or does the building look like a bowling pin?  I like the figures
in the foreground.  They a high-tech feel to the image.

I like this one quite a lot! A kind of Fifties SF illustration. Very well 
done.

Guilty as charged. ;-) I tried out a bunch of different isosurface shapes, but
settled on this one because it looked somewhat different from a 'cliche' sci-fi
building. Unfortunately, a bowling pin was the result. :-[

Thanks.  I was *trying* to get that 1950's-'60's sci-fi illustration look--the
kind of images that were popular on paperback novels at the time. (I had several
specific artists in mind--Richard Powers and John Berkey.) A kind of
non-realistic 'sketchy' look. Still needs work, though.

You mean that odd boxy sculpture? It's meant to be made of *some* kind of glass,
although it turned out looking rather strange. (How much ior to add? How much
reflection? etc.) The real trouble with these sculptures is that they can have
endless variations (which I tried!!) I got bogged down in that aspect of the
scene, and finally said, "OK, enough!" ;-)

The tall plate-like sculpture is meant to be a metal thingy--big plates of dark
iron or steel, with a rough surface. Rather 'basic', I admit--given POV-Ray's
ability to make just about any odd sculpture imaginable.

There's an aspect to the entire scene that may be giving it an overall odd look:
The camera has a very wide-angle view (which normally distorts everything.) I
tried to correct for this in the individual objects--rotating them to be
more-or-less vertical 'visually.'  But I didn't do it to *all* the objects (the
trees are still slanted, for example.) It was an experiment that didn't quite
work out as planned.

Here's one of the earlier images, with different lighting. (This is how I
originally envisioned the scene--but I like the sunset look better.)

Here's an early building test--less bowling-pin like. (I don't recall the reason
why I didn't go with this shape instead--I did lots of scene tests using it.)

The headquarters building reminds me not of a bowling pin, but of Rosie, the
Jetson's robot maid. This is a very cool scene!!!

I think it was the colors that clinched it for me.  I actually like the "all
glass" look, very modern and would match your fifties theme well.

P.S. I enjoyed seeing the progression of your work. I'm always fascinated by the
thought process people take to get to the final result.
