Hi
I recently bought a 24" lcd monitor, and needed a wallpaper for it. So I made
this. What do you think?
POV-Ray 3.6, that nice tomtree java program for the tree, the leaf is an image
map, dof.inc for blur and gimp post processing for moving the horizon down a
bit.

Now I just have to render all my other images in 1920x1200 :-/

I'd prefer somethingg with a little gradient (for the sky).

Really minimalist.
3d -> 2d is fun.

I like it. The focal blur on the tree branches is pretty grainy, but I
like the concept very much.

I like it.
Perhaps with some ripples on the water

Thanks for the nice feedback, glad you like it. Here is a small update with a
makehuman model, this time rendered in 3.7. It seems like 3.7 adds antialiasing
on top of focal blur(?), which is great, because I could get away with much
fever blur samples.

The ripples is a good idea, but I had some trouble getting the desired results
without messing other things up, so I'm working on a new approach.

I'm also trying to add some more color, and have a nice image for the
background, but I can't get it in focus without it intersecting with the tree.

You should try using PovEdge and see how it affects the results. The link to the
tool's website seems to be dead, so I'm not sure exactly where you could
download it from, though.

Good idea! Didn't think of that. I already have it around here somewhere. I
don't know how well it will handle the tree though, since it's a very detailed
mesh, but I'll try it out.
Just found out from the POV-Tree website that it IS possible to reduce the
detail of the mesh. So I'll play around with it some more.
