Interesting. I can't remember a chessboard that I've played on made out
of wood where that wasn't the case. But it stands to reason that it
wouldn't be 100% consistent. :-)

And I remember it too because it's the single best pure povray plank texture
I've ever found. It's kind of like Warp's sign.

This one looks amazingly good! The colors and the light effects fit the
entire scene. A masterpiece of POV art!

Can you send me the scene code? I would appreciate it a lot!

Sven

And if this is your very first finished work with POV-Ray, I wonder how much
more perfect your future works in a few years will look...
Now you start to frighten me...

CREDITS

Gaf, for boldly letting everyone see his chessboard and Bezier curves, cool Gaf.

Cousin Ricky, for suggesting dispersion

All those escaping memory but who chimed in with helpful hints, and did it only
because it was helpful, worthy of co-existence, amaze me like the Holy Grail
must have inspired King Arthur.

Image begs for more power at higher trace and adaptive levels, 5 and 1 used
here.

Arthur: The Lady of the Lake,... [angels sing] ...her arm clad in the purest
shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water signifying
by Divine Providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. [singing stops]
That is why I am your king! Dennis: Listen. Strange women lying in ponds
distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive
power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic
ceremony. Arthur: Be quiet! Dennis: Well, but you can't expect to wield supreme
executive power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you! Arthur: Shut
up! Dennis: I mean, if I went 'round saying I was an emperor just because some
moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away! Arthur: Shut
up, will you? Shut up! Dennis: Ah, now we see the violence inherent in the
system. Arthur: Shut up! Dennis: Oh! Come and see the violence inherent in the
system! Help! Help! I'm being repressed! Arthur: Bloody peasant! Dennis: Oh,
what a give-away. Did you hear that? Did you hear that, eh? That's what I'm on
about. Did you see him repressing me? You saw it, didn't you?
