Just for fun.

I'm not happy with the forest--I think I failed to get enough variety in the
trees, and they look a little squished.

Anyway, here it is. Just wanted to post something since I haven't in a while.
I think I might put a castle on top of one of the outcroppings.

Beautiful. I agree the trees are a little squished, but overall the textures
are great. Love the overall atmosphere.

Thanks everyone.

The close trees are made with POVtree. (Anybody know if they ever put together
a full version with obj export???) The farther trees are just spheres with
texture.

Come, Kirk, tell me how you do this! I need to know! :-)

No, not a castle, please. But a medium amount of small, round (bubble-alike)
houses, some in clusters, some alone. In grass green color, in warm yellow,
cream or orange shades, or in pure white. Ancient or future style but plain.
And populate that settlement with plenty small humans, seen only from a
distance (so you can avoid too many details). Some in groups, some alone.
Walking, talking, trading.

The sky wants some more realistic look. Add clouds. Add some distant bird
swarms.

Many of the small houses will have some small orange or yellow lights inside
or outside which should work fine with this evening atmosphere.

The idea of a castle brings unpeace to this quiet scene, I think.

Greetings,

Sven

:) I'm glad you enjoy it!

Really, its not terribly complicated. A few key components:

1. Isosurface landscape using wrinkles **poly_wave 4**(very important), bumps,
and cylindrical pigment patterns.
2. A couple of fog layers for mist and distance
3. Blurred reflection on the water
4. Lighting: light source is near the horizon that is very orange and very
bright. The skysphere is purple, and ultra-low radiosity settings cast it's
purplish light on the landscape. Fog settings provide the glow on the horizon.

I like your suggestions: birds is an idea I hadn't thought of. People are hard
but perhaps I can add a little primitive village here or there. Or maybe
ancient ruins of some long-since-gone civilization.
