Hi.
It's difficult, also starting with a RSOCP.
Here it is (because I dislike it to make Stephen angry). :-)
It's really simple, so it needs no comments.

Regards,

Interesting composition, I keep thinking the CP is transparent.

You can partially see the <artwork> reflected on the surface of the sphere.
This reminds me of an experiment/technique I wanted to ask others about.

It seems possible to see the artwork fully, but distorted, if viewed from
another angle. If that is possible, then the resulting image be saved.

How could this image be mapped back onto the sphere with the original artwork
replaced by a reflective plane?

The result from the original position would be a similar to the original artwork
and the resulting image as bluetree has rendered it above.

I have the rough idea in mind, but no useful knowledge to get the
saved/distorted view of the artwork mapped back onto the sphere.

Any suggestions, thanks in advance?

That will be the first time :)

I like the composition and the juxtaposition (sorry) of the sharp heightfield
and washed out sphere and draughtsboard. I find this image somewhat disturbing
for some reason that I can't put my finger on.

What you may find disturbing is the height_field, or rather the landscape it
represents. Together with its reflection, there is a feeling of instability,
either of the cliffs, or the viewer. Personally, I feel a bit desoriented
when looking at the image.

Yes there is that although I'll confess to seeing a similar heightfield of
bluetree's before. The difference of perspective is something that I've tried
for myself to very limited success.
I think that the sharpness of the heightfield compared to the softness of the
rest of the scene draws my eye away from the subject (the sphere). It also
reminds me of Rune's "No More Chrome Spheres Please" as if his sphere has gone
on an adventure.
As an aside, I'm going to get the prescription for my glasses checked today :)

Sorry for the delay.
(I solved some "little" problems with my PC.)
I didn't want to confuse anybody with that picture-> sorry again!
I also didn't think a lot doing that scene. Just putting some simple objects
together.
The sphere was sooooo lonely, so I installed that pre-rendered canyon. Otherwise
it was too empty.
I did not make anything transparent, as I'm still learning materials.
To sum: I'm still in learning phase of everything, so this is just a really
simple scene: a grey skysphere, a grey reflecting plane, a checkered plane with
almost the same grey and a kind of yellow, the grey reflecting sphere... I don't
have to bore you... :)
Nevertheless: Thank you for watching it and posting comments as I said "do not
do it". :-D

I assume that the various speckles in the canyon are isosurface
artifacts? When I first saw this image, the canyon shapes struck me as
high-rise buildings, and all the little dots as windows.

I'll also second the comment about the checkerboard seeming transparent.
Only the sphere's shadow convinces me that the board is indeed opaque.

Overall, a very nice variation on the RSOCP theme.

Come to think of it, I don't remember ever posting an RSOCP myself...

You know you've been raytracing too long when you concentrate so hard on
the effects watching "Toy Story" that you honestly don't have a clue as
to what the story was about.

Ah, I wished, I was able to create the landscape, which I want to have, using
isosurfaces. No. I have to learn more. :-)
IIRC I used only a simple heightfield with normal map (agate)... (It was a first
test to learn how to use heightfield maps and later how to use maps on a box)

Thanks!
Go on with that! Girls love compliments. ^^
