I liked that pedestal so much I just had to stick my hand in the scene and take
a picture. Rendering time is about thirty minutes with a point light or about
six hours with the area light here. No image map, just a uniform texture.

Wings3d, lots of media, and no fingernails. Didn't really feel like uv-mapping
it, so it's just a solid pigment. The pigment has filter 1-epsilon and diffuse
1/epsilon so the pigment (and normal) shows up, but doesn't block out the glow.
With at least fourteen independent parameters (pigment(r,g,b=3) + diffuse +
extinction + scattering(3) + emission(3) + absorption(3)), it's a bit of a
challenge, but possible nonetheless. As for fingernails, I'm afraid separate
fingernails would cast shadows in the hand like those in the block.

Probably not. Perhaps little too much twist.

Need to get studying, so here's a quick fix. Should solve the problem entirely.

Didn't I see a dragon on that pedestal the other day? :-)
This is yet another reminder to me that one of these days I'm going to
have to sit down and seriously play with Wings 3D.

And for those thinking "WTF?" Try googling for "this is not a pipe"
(with the quotes this time).
