I've attached a nice waterfall for fellow povers to relax and contemplate
around.

(I've started a gallery of my images too at www.paradiseregained.co.uk,
including an old itrc entry.. oh how I miss that comp)

Comments welcome, I know people enjoy just looking at the odd povray image.
(That's not to say mine are any good)

Actually, in my experience, waterfalls are quite difficult to make look
right, and this one is rather good! So, kudos to you. How did you make
it?

After spending most time on the isosurface rocks, texture, the water and
plants I wondered how on earth I'd get a realistic waterfall then I found
examples at http://www.travelnotes.de/rays/island/index.htm.

So in the end it's just 5 stretched spheres (look carefully) with emitting
media, seems to do the trick suprisingly well.

Excellent. You need to develop the effects of teh falling water
impacting the pool's surface. The rest is excellent.

Cool, Matt, thanks for the link. It looks good to me, although after
seeing how it's done, I'd be tempted to add a couple more spheres to hide
the other five.

You also need some 'splash' in there.

Can anyone else see the face that I'm seeing in that waterfall??

Nice image, and good work with the surrounding foliage.

I totally agree that more work could be done with splashes etc, however I've
a bad habit of moving on to another image so don't hold your breath.

It took me a while but I did see the face eventually, a weird one at that.
If we're seeing the same one?

Your approach is quite interesting. I have tried several times to get a
realistic waterfall without success. After a long time I decided to
simulate the efect of water falling taken in a fast photograph, so you can
actually see the shape of water and not a blurred water.

to get the idea of what I'm trying to say look at this flash. It is made of
4 pov ray images. In the two last images there is a water fall coming from
a window.

http://personales.ya.com/robertoullan/images/casa.swf

The waterfall is made of a mesh (Wings) and random spheres...
Sincerely, I prefer yours
