I've finally put another CGSphere submission together. Was a bit of an
exercise in making the wax material.

A very, very beautiful object! Excellent concept, design and realization.
Congrats.

Looks to me like a bit of an exercise in a lot of things. That flame
alone is masterful. Demonstrates why people sit and stare at flames. THe
simple beauty of the color and form, of the mechanism itself. The
construction and texturing of each element in the scene bears well the
detailed scrutiny it invites. The anti-aliasing alone and clean
moudlation of the shadows is remarkable. Beautiful concept, beautiful
execution. Bravo.

Thanks. Actually the flame was one I developed a few years ago (after hours
of staring at flames and pictures of flames trying to get the colours and
shapes right)

Probably the best flame I've seen done in POV. I also love the overall
lighting and the choice of colours. The wax looks a bit too liquid to me
(I suppose the upper part is meant to be liquid, but the lower part
looks so, too). I'm not sure what's the cause, probably it could be a
bit darker.
Keep up the good work!
Florian

Thanks for the comments. If anyone is interested, I can post the flame for
fiddling with (I may have already done so a while back, can't really
recall)
The wax has a relatively uniform density (scattering media). I have fresnel
reflection set for it and it has a smooth surface which is tending to make
it look liquidy at the top I think. I suppose I could've either added some
roughness to the top, or maybe varied the media density to coincide with a
liquid/solid transition.

Another great CGSphere image, the wax is excellent and the flame looks very
realistic. Also, I like the way you have given a slight glow to the end of
the wick it is something I would not have thought of but makes the effect
very realistic.

Hi,
a really beautiful picture, very impressive.
Just a minor question: what's the meaning of that chinese character ??
It seems not to belong to the roughly 2000 most important kanji in my
dictionary :-)
Thank you
Karl

Thanks.
Actually, by this time I had forgotten what it meant (I started this one
maybe a couple months ago). Luckily the image map I used for it still had
the name: "prosperity"
