Here's a lovely Twisted Sister logo. I think this logo turned out especially
nice. For some reason .jpg compression seems to have really muted the
vibrancy of the orange sky_sphere behind the grid of diamonds though.

Two suggestions:
1. Did you turn off JPEG color supersampling?
2. The image looks simple enough to take PNG compression well. It almost
certainly won't be as small as the JPEG version, but the colors will be
intact.
